Important Information Before Going to Belize

Belize has a very diverse culture and a wonderful climate. The overall climate of Belize can be described as sub-tropical and May to September are the warmest months in this Central American country. Before going on a trip to Belize you have to have enough information on what to bring. Be sure to check the weather and climate patterns for the time of year you plan to travel to Belize.

Here are some tips to help you in preparing for a trip to this fine Central American country:

* Protect your photo equipment and other equipment sensitive to humidity.

Humidity is high in Belize. Sealable plastic bags are useful to keep things safe from the moisture, so make sure to bring some.

* Bring your medication and prescription.

Do not forget your medication and if you bring some medication, make sure you declare it at the customs. There are also some drugs that can be bought over-the-counter without a prescription.

* Buy mosquito repellent and sun block before you go to Belize.

* Get Hepatitis shots before leaving for Belize.

Hepatitis A, B and C cases can be prevalent in Central American countries such as Belize. Also, be sure to wash your hands many times throughout the day, especially before eating. And use appropriate disinfectants and antiseptics.

* Pack light

Make sure you have everything you may need but don't overpack. This will only cause you more headaches on your travel.

* Keep copies of all your important documents.

You may leave copies of these with a friend back home, or keep copies in a separate location from the originals. You can also email the copies to yourself.

* Bring appropriate shoes and clothes.

If the reason for the trip to Belize is the beaches, then a pair of sandals, together with your bathing suit and hat are necessary. You will also need walking shoes and clothes for any other events you have planned while in Belize. There is much to do there so clothes for all occasions may be necessary.

* Bring some deodorant and perfume/cologne.

It is hot in Belize so you will probably sweat. These essentials for smelling good are very handy.

* Never leave your belongings unattended.

It's best not to bring expensive items with you. For example: If you can settle for disposable cameras instead of your expensive camera, then do so. And whatever you do bring do not leave it alone.

* Learn some Spanish.

English is the official language of Belize but Spanish is actually more widely used. It can be very helpful to know basic Spanish while communicating with the locals.

* Have valid entry and exit documents.

* Have some cash handy.

Major credit cards - MasterCard, Visa, Amex and Discover - are accepted but a little cash will be very good to have on hand in many situations.

With these guidelines you can look forward to having an amazingly enjoyable travel to Belize.
